Trusting in God
“He shall be like a tree planted by the waters, which spreads out its roots by the river, and will not fear when heat comes; but its leaf will be green, and will not be anxious in the year of drought, nor will cease from yielding fruit.” Jeremiah 17:8
Jeremiah 17:8 paints a beautiful picture of the resilience, stability, and peace of a person who places their complete trust in God.
The tree thrives because it does not depend on unpredictable rainfall. Instead, it has sent its roots deep into the river, drawing from a constant, unseen source of life. In the same way, those who trust in the Lord are sustained by His presence rather than by changing circumstances.
The heat will come. Trials, disappointments, sickness, loss, and uncertainty are all part of life. Yet the person whose roots are firmly established in God does not live in fear because their source of strength is not external, it is found in the Lord Himself.
The “year of drought” represents those prolonged seasons when prayers seem unanswered, resources are scarce, and life feels difficult. While others may become overwhelmed by fear and anxiety, the one who is deeply rooted in God remains steady. Their leaves stay green because they are continually nourished by the living water of God’s faithfulness.
This does not mean they never struggle or feel pain. Rather, it means they are sustained through every season. Their hope is not based on what they can see but on the unchanging character of God.
Our true character and spiritual fruit are not determined by our circumstances but by where our roots are planted. When our lives are firmly rooted in Christ, we continue to love, serve, encourage others, and bear fruit even in seasons of hardship. The drought may surround us, but it cannot dry up the river that flows from God.
When our roots go deep into Him, we discover that His grace is always sufficient, His strength never fails, and His faithfulness never runs dry.
