THE CROSS OF CALVARY

SUNDAY 19TH JULY, 2026
```TEXT: PSALM 34:1-8```
```KEY VERSE:``` "O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him" (PSALM 34:8).
David wrote this Psalm not from a palace, but from a cave. He had been anointed king, yet he was running from Saul, hiding, hungry, and afraid. But in that cave, he discovered what we often forget in comfort — that goodness is not only heard, it is tasted. God does not want you to only hear about Him on Sundays; He wants you to experience Him on Mondays. And where do we taste His goodness most clearly? At Calvary. The Cross is the proof that God is good when life is not.
Three truths from the table of His goodness: One, God’s goodness is personal. David says “taste and see.” Goodness is not a doctrine to debate, it is a Person to know. Jesus took your place on the Cross so you can take your place at His table. Two, God’s goodness is present even in pressure. David said “I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears” (verse 4). The Cross did not remove David’s cave immediately, but it gave him a song inside the cave. God may not change your situation instantly, but He will change you inside it. Three, God’s goodness is protection. “The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them” (verse 7). Because of Calvary, you are surrounded. The enemy may see you, but he must go through the Blood to get to you.
Are you feeling dry this morning? Come back to the Cross. Don’t just hear about goodness today in church — taste it again. There is mercy for your past, grace for today, and hope for tomorrow. One taste of His goodness at Calvary will make you trust Him for a lifetime.
Prayer
Father of all goodness, thank You for the Cross where Your goodness was poured out for me. Forgive me for complaining instead of tasting. Today, I open my heart again — fill me with Your goodness. Deliver me from every fear, surround me and my household with Your presence, and let this Sunday be marked by Your joy and testimony. Let my life be proof that You are good, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
May the Lord cause you to taste His goodness anew today. May His mercy rewrite your story, His presence go with you into this new week, and His goodness and mercy follow you all the days of your life. Amen. 🏼
