Visitors to caves are often told a familiar story. Stalactites and stalagmites supposedly grow at a glacial pace, about one inch every hundred years. Stretch that rate across towering cave formations and suddenly millions of years feel unavoidable. That claim has been repeated so often it sounds like settled science. But it is not. It is an assumption built on selective conditions, not a law of nature.

When the Lincoln Memorial was constructed in the 1930s, engineers anchored the structure by sinking steel cylinders deep into the bedrock. Beneath the memorial floor sits a large basement space. Over time, rainwater seeped through the marble ceiling, carrying dissolved minerals with it. The result was not theoretical. Stalactites formed right there on the ceiling, some reaching lengths of up to five feet in less than a century. That is roughly an inch per year, not an inch per century.

This is a real world, documented example showing that mineral formations can grow rapidly under the right conditions. The slow growth rates preached in museums and textbooks are not universal truths. They are extrapolations chosen to fit an old Earth story. Scripture gives us a far firmer foundation. Biblical history and genealogies place creation only thousands of years ago, not millions. When observable evidence and God’s Word align, it is clear which authority stands unshaken. Biblical truth does not bend to human theories. Human theories must answer to truth.
