THE DEATH THAT GIVES LIFE
```TEXT: MATTHEW 27:45-54```
```KEY VERSE:``` "Jesus, when he had cried again with a loud voice, yielded up the ghost" (MATTHEW 27:50).
Matthew 27 brings us to Calvary itself. No more parables, no more mountains. The King stands before Pilate, Barabbas goes free, and Jesus is led to Golgotha. From the sixth to the ninth hour, darkness covered the land. Then came the cry that shook eternity: “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” He who knew only fellowship now knew forsakenness — for you. At the ninth hour, He yielded up His ghost. Not taken, yielded.
Three truths from Calvary’s hill: One, darkness fell because Light was judged. “Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land.” From noon to 3pm, God turned off the sun. It was not an eclipse. It was the Father hiding His face while the Son became sin. The darkness you deserved fell on Him. Two, the veil tore because access was opened. “And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom.” Man tears from bottom to top, but God tore from top to bottom. The way into God’s presence, closed for 1500 years, was opened by one death. Three, He yielded His life willingly. “Yielded up the ghost.” No man took His life. He gave it. He died as a King dismissing His spirit. And when He died, the earth quaked, graves opened, and a Roman centurion confessed, “Truly this was the Son of God.”
What does His death mean to you today? Have you remained on the outside of the torn veil, or have you entered in? Barabbas walked free because Jesus took his cross. That Barabbas is you. Come today — the darkness is past, the veil is torn, the price is paid.
