Today’s Scripture

John 1:23 (ESV)

“He said, ‘I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, “Make straight the way of the Lord,” as the prophet Isaiah said.’”

Opening the Scriptures

As John’s ministry grew, religious leaders came from Jerusalem to ask who he was. Was he the Christ? Was he Elijah? Was he the Prophet? John answered each question with humility. He refused every title that would draw attention to himself.

Instead, John identified himself as “the voice.” His purpose was not to build his own reputation but to prepare people to receive the Messiah. He understood that he was only a messenger. The message was far greater than the messenger.

John called people to repentance because the promised Savior had come. Hearts needed to be prepared to receive the Lord. His ministry fulfilled Isaiah’s prophecy by pointing people away from themselves and toward Jesus Christ.

This is the pattern of every faithful servant of God. We are not called to make ourselves known. We are called to make Christ known.

Living God’s Word Today

In a world that encourages self-promotion, Christians are called to a different path. Our lives should point people to Jesus rather than to ourselves.

Ask yourself today, Do my words, my attitudes, and my actions direct others to Christ? Whether you serve in your church, your home, your workplace, or your community, your greatest privilege is to bear witness to the Savior.

Like John the Baptist, let us gladly decrease so that Christ may increase. May our lives become a clear testimony to His grace, His truth, and His saving power.

“I am the voice of one crying out in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord.’”

May you know Christ more deeply, trust Him more fully, and glorify Him more faithfully today than yesterday.
