LET THY WILL BE DONEOur Lord Jesus Christ taught us one of the greatest prayers ever prayed:Luke 11:2 (NKJV) – "Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."This prayer reveals that heaven already functions perfectly according to the will of God. There is no rebellion, no disorder, no sickness, no sin, and no confusion in heaven. Everything in heaven obeys God completely. Jesus therefore taught us to pray that what is already happening in heaven should also happen on earth. This immediately raises a question:

Who is supposed to carry out God's will on earth?
The answer is man.

When God created the heavens and the earth, He filled heaven with angels, living creatures, cherubim, seraphim, and the twenty-four elders who continually worship Him. Before man was ever created, worship was already taking place.Job tells us:Job 38:4-7 (KJV) – "...Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth?... When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy."John also saw heaven.Revelation 5:8-9 (KJV) – "The four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb... and they sung a new song..."Thousands upon thousands of angels continually worship God. Heaven did not need another singer. Heaven already had worshippers. So why then did God create man?The answer begins in Genesis.Genesis 1:26 (KJV) – "And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion..."Notice that before God speaks about man's occupation, education, nationality, or possessions, He gives man a purpose."Let them have dominion."Dominion was not man's idea. Dominion was God's assignment.God made man in His image so that man could represent Him on earth.Psalm 8 confirms this truth.Psalm 8:4-8 (NKJV) – "You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet."Hebrews repeats the same message.Hebrews 2:6-8 (NKJV) – "You have crowned him with glory and honor, and set him over the works of Your hands."Man was crowned with glory because he was given responsibility.Dominion simply means to rule, govern, exercise authority, manage, and bring God's order wherever He has placed you.God never intended the earth to govern man.God intended man to govern the earth under God's authority.Adam was not created merely to exist. He was created to represent God.He was to cultivate the garden, name the animals, guard creation, and extend God's righteous rule throughout the earth.Dominion does not mean oppression.Dominion means responsible stewardship under God's authority. The tragedy came in Genesis 3.Instead of ruling over the serpent, man listened to the serpent.Instead of exercising authority, he surrendered authority.Sin entered the world, and man's dominion became corrupted.Fear replaced confidence.Shame replaced glory.Death replaced life. But God never abandoned His original purpose.God sent another Man.His name is Jesus Christ.Jesus came from heaven. For a moment, let us consider His humanity.Jesus was born through Mary.He grew as a child. He learned obedience. He became tired. He became hungry. He worked with His hands. He walked the dusty roads of Israel. He experienced temptation.Yet He never sinned.Hebrews says He was tempted in every way as we are, yet without sin.Jesus showed us what perfect obedience to the Father looks like.He demonstrated how a man filled with the Holy Spirit lives on earth. When Jesus entered the synagogue in Nazareth, He opened the Scriptures.Luke 4:17-19 (KJV) – "He found the place where it was written..."Jesus knew that His life had already been written in God's plan. Then He declared:"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me... He hath anointed me..."Jesus understood His assignment. He knew why He had come.Hebrews explains His heart.Hebrews 10:7 (NKJV) – "Behold, I have come... to do Your will, O God."Jesus did not come to establish His own agenda. He came to accomplish the Father's will.Every miracle He performed reflected God's will.Healing the sick was God's will.Delivering captives was God's will.Opening blind eyes was God's will.Forgiving sinners was God's will.Destroying the works of the devil was God's will. When Jesus taught us to pray,"Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven,"He was inviting every believer to participate in God's purpose.God's will is not accomplished by angels on earth. It is accomplished through men and women who surrender themselves to Him.Just as Jesus said,"I have come to do Your will, O God,"every believer should also say,"Lord, here I am. I have come to do Your will."The question every Christian must ask is not,"What do I want?"The real question is,"What does God want?"Your career should fulfill God's will.Your business should fulfill God's will.Your marriage should fulfill God's will.Your ministry should fulfill God's will.Your gifts should fulfill God's will.Your finances should fulfill God's will.Your influence should fulfill God's will.God's will is bigger than our personal ambitions. The greatest success is not becoming famous. The greatest success is finishing God's assignment.Jesus said,"My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me."That was His satisfaction. At the end of His earthly ministry He declared,"It is finished."He completed the Father's assignment. What about us?Like Jesus, every believer has a purpose written by God.Paul says we are God's workmanship, created for good works that God prepared beforehand.God has an assignment for every believer. Some are called to preach. Some are called to teach. Some are called to lead. Some are called to build businesses with integrity. Some are called to raise godly families. Some are called to influence governments. Some are called into education. Some into medicine. Some into agriculture. Some into engineering.Every calling becomes holy when it is done according to God's will.Dominion begins by allowing God to rule your own life. You cannot rule circumstances while sin rules your heart. You cannot exercise spiritual authority while rebellion controls your spirit. Before Adam ruled the garden, he first lived under God's command. Before Jesus ministered publicly, He first submitted completely to the Father.Authority flows from submission. When we submit to God's will, He entrusts us with His authority. This is why Jesus could calm storms, cast out demons, heal diseases, and forgive sins.He always acted in perfect agreement with the Father. The Church today is called to continue Christ's mission. We preach the Gospel. We heal the brokenhearted. We pray for the sick.We proclaim freedom to those bound by sin.We demonstrate the Kingdom of God.We bring heaven's values into earth's situations.Where there is darkness, we bring light.Where there is hatred, we bring love.Where there is confusion, we bring truth.Where there is injustice, we stand for righteousness.Where there is despair, we bring hope. That is God's will on earth.Every morning we should pray,"Father, let Your will be done in my life today."Every decision should be measured against His will.Every opportunity should be surrendered to His will.Every dream should be submitted to His will. One day every believer will stand before Christ. The question will not simply be how much money we earned, how many houses we built, or how famous we became. The question will be:Did we do the will of God?Did we finish the assignment He gave us?May we be able to say like Jesus,"Father, I have glorified You on earth. I have finished the work You gave me to do."Let us therefore return to the prayer our Lord taught us:"Our Father in heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven."May God's will become our greatest desire.May His Kingdom become our highest priority.May His purpose become our life's mission.May we exercise the dominion He originally gave mankind—not for selfish ambition, but to glorify God by bringing His righteous rule into every area of life.Let every believer rise and say with confidence:"Lord, here am I. It is written of me to do Your will, O God. Let Your will be done in my life, in my family, in my church, in my nation, and on the earth, until Jesus Christ returns."Amen.
