The notion that we only have to pray something once for it to happen is akin to witchcraft and invocations. That's not to say that it can't happen, but God is not a genie to just fulfill our desires. A practical aspect of us petitioning multiple times through prayer, is that it changes us and our desires. It also reminds us that He is God, not us.
