The Voice I Choose
Voices call to me,
trying to lead me
to places
I no longer want to go.
Their tone is familiar,
yet deceptive,
calling me by name,
inviting me back
to the things
that once held
such fascination
and wonder
in my heart.
But my life has changed.
I am no longer
who I once was.
I have been transformed
Into something new.
How can I ever explain
all You have done
within me?
I am not the same.
The fear
that once ruled my heart
has drifted away,
like a puff of smoke
rising from a fading flame.
Now it is Your voice
that captures my heart,
gently whispering,
“All is well.”
I hold tightly
to the truth
of what You have done for me,
how Your love
has set me free.
The cage
that once held me captive
lies broken
and torn apart.
I no longer
have to hide.
Your words
do not lead me astray.
They are safe.
They are peaceful.
They fill my heart
with joy
once again.
What I once considered gain,
I now count as loss,
because of the finished work
of the cross.
Your voice
has become
the only one
I long to follow.
Voices call to me,
trying to lead me
to places
I no longer want to go.
