Today’s Scripture
John 1:35–37 (ESV)
“The next day again John was standing with two of his disciples, and he looked at Jesus as he walked by and said, ‘Behold, the Lamb of God!’ The two disciples heard him say this, and they followed Jesus.”
Opening the Scriptures
John the Baptist had gathered many followers through his faithful preaching. Yet when Jesus appeared, John did not seek to keep his disciples for himself. Instead, he pointed them to Christ.
For the second time, John declared, “Behold, the Lamb of God!” His mission was never to build a following around himself. His greatest joy was to lead people to the Savior.
When the two disciples heard John’s testimony, they immediately left him and followed Jesus. They recognized that they had found the One to whom John had been pointing all along.
This is the mark of every faithful Christian ministry. Its purpose is not to draw attention to personalities, organizations, or traditions. Its purpose is to lead people to Jesus Christ. Every preacher, teacher, church, and ministry should be able to say with John, “Do not look at me—look to Christ.”
Living God’s Word Today
Ask yourself today, Who am I pointing people toward?
Our words, our attitudes, and our actions should direct others to Jesus Christ. Whether we are speaking with family, encouraging a friend, teaching a Bible study, or serving in our church, our desire should always be that Christ is seen more clearly.
Like John the Baptist, may we find our greatest joy in seeing others follow the Lord. A faithful servant does not seek personal recognition but rejoices whenever Jesus Christ is honored.
Today, let your life point someone to the Savior. There is no greater privilege than introducing another person to the Lamb of God.
“Behold, the Lamb of God!”
May you know Christ more deeply, trust Him more fully, and glorify Him more faithfully today than yesterday.
