THE KING ON A CROSS
KEY VERSE:``` "And set up over his head his accusation written, THIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS" (MATTHEW 27:37).
Matthew 27 shows us Jesus as King even in mockery. The soldiers platted a crown of thorns and put it on His head, a reed for a sceptre in His right hand, and a scarlet robe for royalty. They bowed the knee and mocked, βHail, King of the Jews!β They did not know they were telling the truth. He was King. He is King. The thorns were our curse, the robe was our shame, the mocking was for our glory.
Three truths about the King on a Cross: One, His crown was pain to give you peace. βThey platted a crown of thorns.β Thorns came from the curse in Genesis. Jesus wore our curse as His crown so we could wear His righteousness as ours. Two, His throne was a Cross to make you free. Men set Him on a Cross and wrote, βTHIS IS JESUS THE KING OF THE JEWS.β The world meant it as insult; God meant it as proclamation. The Cross was His throne, and from it He reigned in love. Three, His silence was power to save you. βHe answered him never a word.β He could have called legions of angels, but He held His tongue. The King who spoke the world into being held His peace, so He could speak your acquittal.
Today, will you mock Him like the soldiers, or crown Him as King? The crown of thorns He wore in shame, He now wears a crown of glory. Bow to Him now while grace still speaks, for every knee will bow one day. Let the King who died for you reign in you.
