THE RESURRECTION AND THE COMMISSION
KEY VERSE:``` "And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations" (MATTHEW 28:18-19).
Matthew does not end at the Cross. Thank God, chapter 28 opens the tomb. Early in the morning, the women came to a sealed grave, but heaven had come before them. An angel descended, the earth quaked, the stone was rolled away — not to let Jesus out, but to let the witnesses in. And the message that shook death still shakes the world: “He is not here: for he is risen, as he said.” The Cross paid the price, but the resurrection proved the payment was accepted.
Three truths from the empty tomb: One, the resurrection confirms His Word. “As he said.” Every promise Jesus made about Calvary came to pass. If He kept His promise to rise, He will keep His promise to return. Two, the resurrection kills fear with joy. “And they departed quickly from the sepulchre with fear and great joy.” For the first time, fear and joy mixed — holy awe that death is dead. The risen Christ met them with one word: “Fear not.” Three, the resurrection sends us to go. “All power is given unto me... Go ye therefore.” Calvary’s Gospel is not to be hidden. The Man who died for all nations now has all power for all nations. Because He lives, we must go.
Have you visited Calvary and left at chapter 27? Don’t stop at His death. Meet the risen Christ today. His tomb is still empty, His power is still all, and His command still stands. He is not there — He is alive. Go and tell it.
