THE BEGINNING OF THE GOOD NEWS
```TEXT: MARK 1:1-11, 14-15```
```KEY VERSE:``` "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God" (MARK 1:1) and "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel" (MARK 1:15).
Mark wastes no time. No genealogy, no manger. He thunders: “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.” Good news begins not with man reaching up, but God coming down. John prepared the way, calling sinners to repentance in the wilderness. Then Jesus Himself came to Jordan, stepped into the waters where sinners stood, and was baptized — not because He needed cleansing, but to identify with us. And heaven tore open: “Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
Three truths from the beginning of the Gospel: One, the Gospel has a beginning in Christ, not in you. “The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” Your good works are not the beginning; Christ is. Calvary started before you ever believed. Two, the Gospel requires a response. “Repent ye, and believe the gospel.” John preached repentance, Jesus preached repentance. Two wings of the same bird — turn from sin, turn to the Savior. No repentance, no gospel. No belief, no salvation. Three, the Gospel brings heaven’s approval. “Thou art my beloved Son.” At Calvary, the Beloved would become forsaken so that forsaken sinners could become beloved. Because He went down into Jordan for us, He would go down into death for us.
Have you heard the beginning? Good news is here. The Son of God has come, heaven is open, the time is fulfilled. Don’t linger in the wilderness. Repent and believe. The same voice that said “Thou art my beloved Son” says over you today in Christ, “You are My beloved.”
✍🏽```THOUGHT FOR THE DAY:``` The Gospel did not begin with your decision for Christ; it began with Christ’s decision for you at Calvary.
