Today’s Scripture

John 1:40–42 (ESV)

“One of the two who heard John speak and followed Jesus was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother. He first found his own brother Simon and said to him, ‘We have found the Messiah’ (which means Christ). He brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, ‘You are Simon the son of John. You shall be called Cephas’ (which means Peter).”

Opening the Scriptures

One of the first things Andrew did after meeting Jesus was to tell someone else. He did not wait until he had learned everything about Christ. He simply shared the wonderful truth that he had discovered: “We have found the Messiah.”

Then Andrew did something very simple, yet very powerful—he brought his brother to Jesus.

That single act changed history. Simon became Peter, the apostle whom God would use in remarkable ways to proclaim the gospel. Andrew could not have imagined all that God would accomplish through his brother, but he faithfully brought him to Christ.

Notice also that Jesus immediately saw what Simon would become. He gave him a new name, Peter, meaning “rock.” Jesus knew the weaknesses Peter would display, but He also knew the man He would shape by His grace. Christ does not merely see who we are today; He sees what His transforming grace will make us.

Living God’s Word Today

Every Christian has an Andrew-sized opportunity. You may not preach to thousands, but you can introduce one person to Jesus.

Perhaps it is a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or a work colleague. You do not need to have every answer. You simply need to point them to Christ.

Never underestimate what God can do through one faithful invitation. The person you bring to Jesus today may influence countless others tomorrow.

Ask the Lord to place someone on your heart this week. Pray for them, love them, and when God opens the door, tell them about the Savior who changed your life.

Like Andrew, may we joyfully say:

“We have found the Messiah.”

May you know Christ more deeply, trust Him more fully, and glorify Him more faithfully today than yesterday.
