“FOLLOW ME” — THE JOURNEY OF A DISCIPLE
FOLLOW ME...BY LISTENING FOR MY VOICE
John 10:27 (LLV) —
“My sheep hear My voice. I know them, and they follow Me.”
There are many voices
competing
for our attention.
Voices telling us
what matters.
What we should fear.
What we should pursue.
Who we should become.
In the middle
of all that noise,
Jesus describes
His followers
very simply.
“My sheep
hear My voice.”
Sheep learn
the voice
of their shepherd.
They recognize it
because they have
spent time
near him.
The same is true
of us.
We learn
to recognize
the voice of Christ
by spending time
with Him.
In His Word.
In prayer.
In quiet moments
when we allow
His truth
to speak
more loudly
than the world
around us.
“I know them.”
Before Jesus speaks
about our following,
He speaks
about His knowing.
He knows
the person
He is leading.
He knows
our strengths.
Our weaknesses.
Our fears.
Our hopes.
Even the places
within us
we do not
fully understand.
We are not following
a distant voice
calling from somewhere
far ahead.
We are following
a Shepherd
who knows us
completely.
“And they
follow Me.”
Hearing
is only
the beginning.
The disciple
listens
and then
responds.
Sometimes
Jesus leads us
toward something new.
Sometimes
away from something
we should leave behind.
Sometimes
He simply says,
“Stay close
to Me.”
We may not
always understand
where He is leading.
The sheep
does not need
to understand
the entire journey.
It only needs
to recognize
the Shepherd
and follow
His voice.
A new beginning listens here:
learning to recognize the voice of Jesus so clearly that when He leads, our hearts are ready to follow.
Reflection: Among all the voices competing for my attention, am I spending enough time with Jesus to recognize His voice when He leads me?
Prayer: Lord Jesus, there are so many voices competing for my attention. Teach me to recognize Yours above them all. Draw me into Your Word and closer to Your heart. When You lead, give me faith to follow even when I cannot see the entire road ahead. Thank You for knowing me completely and for being the Shepherd I can always trust. Amen.
