THE MAGI (Matthew 2:11 NKJV)
The gifts speak to the very nature, life, and purpose of Jesus. The magi gave gold, which pointed to the fact that Jesus was a king. The frankincense they gave was used in temple rites, and the aroma of it is said to represent life. Therefore, the frankincense represented Jesus’s presence. Finally, the myrrh they gave pointed toward Jesus’s crucifixion and eventual death. Myrrh was used to anoint dead bodies for burial.
