But You, O Lᴏʀᴅ, know me; You have seen me, and You have tested my heart toward You.

Jeremiah 12:3

“A little knowledge separates us from God. Much knowledge brings us closer to Him.” This quote is from Louis Pasteur. He was a leading physicist and biochemist who contributed much to the prevention of infectious diseases.

A well-known astrophysicist experienced the truth of this quote, as well as today’s Bible verse. Even as a child, he devoured every book on astronomy that he could get his hands on. Later, he studied the creation accounts of various religions and found that they could not provide real answers about the origin of life.

Then he remembered a Bible he had received from the Gideons during his school days. He searched for it on the shelf and began to read it secretly. To his amazement, he found that all the statements about the creation account in Genesis matched current observations. Could that be a coincidence?

But statements such as in today’s verse not only appealed to his mind – also to his conscience. He realised that the Creator, who is far above space and time, can see into the hearts of people! Everyone needs Jesus Christ as Saviour so that they can stand before God.

Finally, he wrote his name in the Gideons’ Bible and surrendered his life to the Lord Jesus. He knew that this step would also be a confession of Christ.
Today’s reading: Joshua 7:1-15 · 1 Corinthians 5:1-13
