Morning friends. One of the best men I know on the planet shared an analogy the other day, and I can’t stop thinking about it. I want you to consider something pretty simple this morning. Imagine you’re holding a cup of coffee. Somebody walks by, bumps your arm, and coffee goes everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? “Because someone bumped into me!” Wrong. You spilled coffee because there was coffee in your cup. If tea had been in the cup, you’d have spilled tea. Life works the same way. Eventually, life is going to bump every one of us. Sometimes it’s a financial problem. Sometimes it’s a health issue. Sometimes it’s a marriage problem, or something else completely outside our control. And when we’re shaken, whatever is inside us is going to come out. You can fake it when everything is going well. But get rattled, and what’s really inside comes pouring out. So here’s the question I think everyone ought to ask themselves…“What’s in my cup?” When life shakes me, do I spill out anger or grace? Bitterness or forgiveness? Fear or faith? Complaining or gratitude? Because here’s the part we can’t forget…Life provides the shaking, God gives us the opportunity to choose what fills the cup. I’ve been doing some serious thinking about my own cup lately. I’ve been through a season that shook me pretty hard. And I’ve discovered there are some things in my cup that God still needs to work on. But I’ve also discovered something beautiful…God doesn’t expect us to fill the cup by ourselves. Galatians 5 tells us about the fruit of the Spirit…love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. That’s what I want spilling out of me when life bumps me. Not because I’m strong enough to manufacture it, but because I’ve spent enough time with Jesus for Him to put it there. So this morning, before we worry about what life is going to pour on us, maybe we ought to ask that question. What’s in my cup?Because sooner or later, somebody’s going to bump the table. And when they do, Whatever is inside is going to spill out. Fill your cup with Jesus. Then when life shakes you, let Jesus spill out. Y’all have a blessed day. Love ya. Pappy Flynn
