The Advent Truth.
One of the biggest messages our culture teaches children is simple: Your feelings determine who you are.
The Bible teaches something very different.
“Follow your heart” may sound inspiring, but Scripture warns us, “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” (Jeremiah 17:9). God never tells us to trust our hearts above His Word. He tells us to trust Him.
Feelings are real, but they aren’t infallible. They change. They can be influenced. They can even lead us away from God’s will. That’s why Proverbs 3:5 says, “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.”
Children deserve better than the message, “Whatever you feel today is who you truly are.” They need to know their identity isn’t built on shifting emotions but on the God who created them with purpose.
As Christians, we’re called to love every person with the compassion of Christ. But loving people doesn’t mean teaching children that truth changes whenever feelings do. Grace and truth always walk together.
Parents, be intentional about what is shaping your children’s worldview. Entertainment teaches. Stories teach. Repetition teaches. Make sure God’s Word is the loudest voice in your home.
Our hearts don’t need to be followed—they need to be surrendered to Jesus. When God’s Word becomes our foundation instead of our emotions, we find an identity that doesn’t change with every passing feeling.
