"THE HEART" — WHAT GOD SEES WITHIN
CREATE IN ME A CLEAN HEART
Psalm 51:10 (LLV) —
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
David
did not pray,
“Help me
hide
my failures.”
He did not ask,
“Help me
look better
to others.”
He prayed
for something
far deeper.
“Create
in me
a clean heart.”
David understood
that his greatest need
was not
a new reputation.
It was
a new heart.
Only God
could do
what David
could never
do himself.
The word
“create”
reminds us
of the beginning.
God created
the heavens
and the earth.
Now David asks
for another
kind of creation—
a heart
made new
by God.
There are times
when we try
to improve
ourselves.
We make promises.
We try harder.
We determine
to do better.
Those efforts
have their place.
But some things
cannot be repaired
by determination alone.
They must be
re-created
by the hand
of God.
That is
the wonderful hope
of this prayer.
God does not
simply polish
what is broken.
He transforms
what we surrender
to Him.
Every day
He continues
His work
of shaping us
into the people
He created us
to become.
A clean heart
is not
a perfect heart.
It is a heart
that remains
open
to God's
cleansing,
forgiveness,
and transforming grace.
A new beginning begins with this prayer:
"Create in me a clean heart, O God," trusting that the One who created us is still creating His likeness within us.
Reflection: Is there an area of my heart that I have been trying to fix on my own instead of placing it into God's hands?
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me enough to change me from the inside out. Create in me a clean heart and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Remove anything that keeps me from walking closely with You, and continue Your work of making me more like Christ each day. I place my heart into Your hands again today. Amen.
