God’s Love for Every Nation
Praise the Lord, all you nations; extol him, all you peoples. For great is his love toward us, and the faithfulness of the Lord endures forever. Psalm 117:1–2
At just two verses long, Psalm 117 is the shortest chapter in the Bible yet it carries one of its most powerful messages. It does not call only one people, one tribe, or one kingdom to worship. It opens its arms wide to all nations and all peoples, declaring that God’s love is not limited by borders, languages, or cultures.
From the very beginning of Scripture, God’s plan has been for every family on earth to know His blessing. When He called Abraham, He promised: “All peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:3). Through the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, that promise became a reality for everyone no matter where we come from or who we are.
This psalm reminds us that God’s love is great larger than our differences, stronger than our divisions, and deeper than our struggles. It is not a love that chooses favorites; it is a love that reaches out to every corner of the world. Whether we live in bustling cities or quiet villages, speak a hundred different languages or follow different customs, we all stand equally before Him, held in the same faithful care.
It also tells us His faithfulness endures forever. Nations rise and fall; cultures shift and change; leaders come and go. But God’s love never fades, never wavers, and never ends. He remains faithful to His people in every generation and every land.
Because His love is for all, our praise should be together. The psalm invites us to lift our voices as one a chorus of tribes and tongues, young and old, from every continent giving thanks that we are all beloved children of the same Creator. There is no “us” and “them” in God’s heart; only one humanity, called to know Him and make Him known.
Today, may we see beyond the lines that divide us. May we recognize God’s image in every person we meet, and may we join with people across the globe in declaring: Great is His love toward us, and His faithfulness endures forever.
