I came across this question again today. A lot of atheists present it like it's a gotcha:

"If God is so good, why would He allow cancer?"

But if we're really interested in the answer, the Bible gives us a clear explanation.

The first thing we need to understand is that cancer isn't something we should blame God for. When God finished creating the world, He called it "very good"(Genesis 1:31). There was no death, disease, or suffering in His original creation.

Everything changed when sin entered the world. "Through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin"(Romans 5:12). Because of the Fall, all creation was subjected to corruption and now groans under the effects of sin (Romans 8:20-22). Cancer, disease, and death are symptoms of a broken creation, not evidence that God delights in suffering.

The amazing part of the gospel is that God didn't abandon us in that brokenness. Jesus entered our world, suffered with us, died for our sins, and rose again to defeat death itself (1 Corinthians 15:54-57). One day, Christ will make all things new, and **"He will wipe away every tear... there shall be no more death, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore" (Revelation 21:4).

So we shouldn't blame God for cancer. We should recognize that we live in a fallen world that desperately needs the Savior God has already provided. Christ came not to create the curse, but to conquer it.
