BEING DIFFERENT IS NOT ENOUGH, WE NEED TO PREACH THE GOSPEL
Lot, a man of God, went to pitch his tent near people who hated God and hated God’s ways. He did this because it was good business strategy. The money is where the population is.
Next, terrorist came and raided the region. Lot was taking captive together with his business community (Sodom). It takes the grace of God in the life of his uncle (Abraham) to get him and his community delivered from eternal slavery. You think the man would have learnt his lesson but he did not.
After returning from captivity, the man left the open field and went to dwell within Sodom city. He probably thought he will be more secured within a walled city. He has forgotten that his uncle who rescued him dwelt in tents in an open field but was kept secured by the Almighty. Lot chose to put his faith in Sodom security apparatus, an apparatus that did not save Sodom in the day of calamity.
Lot tried to be a good man in Sodom, but gave his daughters as wives to his sinful neighbors. He didn’t want to appear as too radical. He tried to belong, thinking he could use his moral high ground to convict and convert a degenerate nation. He thought to make impact by just being different.
Christians are falling into that same trap today. You hear people saying that we are to persuade unbelievers with our moral lives and not through preaching. Beloved,, that is half truth. The Gospel of Jesus Christ is a gospel of power and that power is manifested as men preach Christ (not themselves) in the anointing of the Holy Spirit.
