Miriam- Prophet and Worship Leader
In Exodus 15 Miriam is identified as a prophet. Why? She spoke his words and sang his praises, making the Lord known to the people. She also acted as an intermediator between men and death. She, along with Aaron and Moses, led the Israelites out of Egypt and into freedom (Micah 6:4). She also interceded with Pharaoh’s daughter to save Moses’ life, a brave move that could easily cost her life.
Praises be to you Lord, for you have rescued me over and over in my life and will continue to do so. May your praise be ever on my lips (Psalm 34:1). Let the wonders of your deeds be known by the words and praise that I offer.
Then Miriam the prophet, Aaron’s sister, took a timbrel in her hand, and all the women followed her, with timbrels and dancing.
Miriam sang to them:
“Sing to the Lord, for he is highly exalted.
Both horse and driver he has hurled into the sea.”
Exodus 15:20-21 NIV
I brought you up out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery. I sent Moses to lead you, also Aaron and Miriam.
Micah 6:4 NIV
