Have you ever tried explaining something you've experienced to someone who hasn't? Sometimes it's almost impossible.
The Christian life is a lot like that.
When we first come to Jesus, change is often met with resistance. Then we begin obeying because we're told to. As we grow in our love and respect for Him, we obey because we want to. Then we realize we're children of God, and serving Him simply becomes what we do.
But there's another stage.
There comes a point where obedience isn't even something you have to think about anymore. It becomes your nature. Your heart has changed, so your actions naturally follow.
I believe that's what James is pointing us toward. We don't do good works to prove how wise or spiritual we are. We live with humility and wisdom because Jesus has changed us from the inside out.
So take a moment today and ask yourself: Am I doing this because I have to, because I want to, or because it has become my nature in Christ?
Father, thank You for changing me from the inside out. Continue to shape my heart until Your ways become my nature. Let my life reflect Your wisdom in everything I do. In Jesus' Name, amen.
