The world feels out of control right now. People respond the way they always do: fear, conflict, grabbing for whatever control they can find.
Non-believers strive against man and against God. That's not surprising. Christians can as easily strive with God and others as well. We do it because we believe if we stop, it will all fall apart.
That's why we fight and argue. It feels urgent, like if we don't speak up right now, whatever we're defending will be lost for good. We know arguing doesn't actually fix anything. It just makes us feel like we're doing something, and that feeling itself is a lie.
It's right here on social media, where friends and family berate each other and keyboard warriors live and die for every post. It's vile.
Underneath all of it is a kind of busyness that won't let us sit still long enough to listen.
God's answer isn't complicated:
Cease striving and know that I am God.
Psalm 46:10
Not because everything is calm. He says it while the world is still in upheaval. He reigns whether we're at peace or not.
The illusion that we can control it costs us so much.
I feel this pull often, and it's never been healthy. For me, it's prayer, trusting, and waiting to see what I'm actually responsible for.
