John 7:38–39 MEANING!

"He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall *flow* rivers of living water."

"But this He spoke concerning the *Spirit* ..."

Notice what Jesus said: rivers.

Rivers don't struggle to flow. They don't wake up every morning wondering if they should start moving. They flow because that's what rivers do.

That's how Jesus describes the Holy Spirit in the believer.

The Spirit is not sitting quietly inside you, waiting for the right song, the right prayer, or the right atmosphere before He begins to move. He is living water. Living water flows.

Stop thinking of God as inactive until you do something. He is not asleep. He is not waiting to be stirred up. He is already at work.

Even your desire for God is evidence that He is working in you. The hunger, the conviction, the love for Christ, the joy, the peace, the boldness—they all flow from His life within you.

You don't carry a dormant Spirit. You carry the living God.

Look within. Right now, He is flowing. Right now, He is working. Right now, His life is being expressed in you.

The Christian life begins by believing that God is already present and already at work. From that confidence comes a life that naturally reflects Him.

He is living water.

And living water never stops flowing.
