FROM GLORY TO CALVARY: THE FATHER'S VOICE
TEXT: MARK 9:2-13
KEY VERSE: "And there was a cloud that overshadowed them: and a voice came out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him." (MARK 9:7).
Yesterday Peter confessed, "Thou art the Christ." Today, the Father confirms it on the mountain. Six days after that confession, Jesus took Peter, James, and John to a high mountain. And He was transfigured before them β His raiment became exceeding white, whiter than any fuller on earth could whiten. Moses and Elias appeared, speaking of His decease which He should accomplish at Jerusalem.
Peter wanted to build three tabernacles β one for Jesus, one for Moses, one for Elias. He wanted to stay on the mountain. But the Father interrupted him with a cloud and a voice: "This is my beloved Son: hear him." And suddenly, when they looked again, they saw no man any more, save Jesus only.
Three truths from the mountain: One, the Law and Prophets point to Calvary. Moses (the Law) and Elias (the Prophets) appeared only to fade away. They came to bear witness that all Scripture points to Jesus and His Cross. Two, you must hear the Son above all voices. God said, "Hear Him." Not Moses, not Elias, not your fears, not your past. In a world of many voices, only one voice saves. Hear Him. Three, the glory of the mountain is for the agony of the valley. They came down from glory to meet a demon-possessed boy (Mark 9:14-29), and from there Jesus set His face toward Jerusalem. He showed them His glory on the mountain to strengthen them for His suffering on Calvary.
You have heard about the Christ, but have you heard Him? The Father still says, "This is my beloved Son: hear him."
βπ½ THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Moses and Elias could appear and disappear, but Jesus alone remains β hear Him alone.
