Listen with Your Heart.

Parents know the frustration of raising teenagers and trying to help them avoid mistakes. Often their attempts result in a screaming match with the parents yelling, “If you would just listen to me!” But they soon learn that trying to force their will rarely works. In Bible times, Jesus disciples as well as prophets felt the same frustration trying to get the people to “hear” what they were saying, but to really have someone “hear” what you are saying - they need to listen with their heart and not their ears! Listening with your heart is important to God too. Unless you open your mind and listen with your heart, you won’t really know or understand what God wants to tell you. The Bible says in Matthew 11:15, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” When you listen with your heart, you gain a desire to obey God’s voice. In Proverbs 8:34, we’re told, “Blessed is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors.” Here’s the truth - if you don’t learn to listen with your heart, you will never recognize God’s voice or understand His will for your life. Proverbs 2:1-5 sheds some powerful light on the benefits of listening to God’s voice: “My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom. And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.” Open your heart to God, and He will nurture your faith, strengthen your character, and teach you obedience. Text: Revelation 3:20, John 10:27-28, Mark 4:24, Job 33:14-15
