Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runeth over.

Satan has his evil angels around us… He makes evil suggestions and inspires worldly thoughts, knowing that he can thus bring the soul into condemnation and bondage… For every class of temptations, there is a remedy. We are not left to ourselves to fight the battle against self and our sinful natures in our own finite strength. Jesus is a mighty helper, a never-failing support.

The sheep could not control or protect itself from every irritating insect. It needed the shepherd, who knew its vulnerability. Just as oil protected the sheep from tormenting insects, the Shepherd’s oil says: “I see what is troubling you. I know what is attacking you. I will care for you, protect you, and refresh you. Stay close to Me.”
