Our culture has made self the centre of everything: self-love, self-esteem, self-discovery, and self-expression. But as long as self remains on the throne, there will be problems. The Gospel calls us from self to the Saviour, from self-discovery to self-denial, from self-esteem to self-sacrifice. Our eyes must be fixed on Jesus, not on ourselves. If self were the answer, we would need no Saviour.
