The Beginning of True Wisdom
Proverbs 9:10 (AMP)
“The fear of the Lord [that is, worshiping Him and regarding Him as truly awesome] is the beginning and preeminent part of wisdom [its starting point and its essence]; and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding and spiritual insight.”
True wisdom begins with God.
The world often defines wisdom as having knowledge, experience, intelligence, or the ability to make good decisions. But Proverbs 9:10 reveals something deeper: wisdom starts with our relationship with the Lord.
To fear God does not mean being terrified of Him. It means honoring Him, reverencing Him, recognizing His greatness, and giving Him His rightful place in our lives. When we truly understand who God is, we begin to see everything else from the right perspective.
We can have plenty of knowledge and still make foolish choices. We can be educated yet lack spiritual understanding. But when we know the Holy One, He gives us insight that goes beyond human reasoning.
Sometimes God’s wisdom will lead us in a direction that doesn't make sense to the world. It may tell us to wait when everyone else says, “Act now.” It may tell us to forgive when our emotions say, “Hold on to the hurt.” It may tell us to trust when we cannot see the outcome.
That is where wisdom begins—when we place God above our own understanding.
Today, don't simply ask God for more knowledge. Ask Him for a heart that reverences Him and seeks His ways. The more we know Him, the more clearly we can recognize His voice, understand His ways, and walk according to His purpose.
Prayer
Heavenly Father,
Teach me to reverence You above everything else. Help me not to depend only on my own understanding, but to seek Your wisdom in every decision I make. Give me spiritual insight and a heart that desires to know You more deeply. Let Your wisdom guide my thoughts, my words, my choices, and my relationships. May my life reflect the wisdom that comes from knowing You.

Remember: When God is the foundation, His wisdom becomes the direction.
