When we read the many passages in which Jesus uses the imagery of sheep, we should recognize something familiar—especially if we have spent any time in law enforcement. As police officers, we often recognize that there are people who prey on others and people who are preyed upon. Jesus recognized this distinction as well. When He sent His disciples into neighboring communities, He warned them, “Behold, I send you out as sheep in the midst of wolves” (Matthew 10:16).
