God Hears the Prayer of a Surrendered Heart
Scripture
1 Samuel 1:27–28 (NKJV)
“For this child I prayed, and the LORD has granted me my petition which I asked of Him. Therefore I also have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the LORD.” So they worshiped the LORD there.
Give Your Burden to the Lord
First Samuel begins during a spiritually difficult period in Israel's history. The days of the judges were coming to an end, Israel desperately needed godly leadership, and God was preparing to raise up Samuel. Yet God's plan for a nation began with the private prayers of a hurting woman named Hannah.
Hannah carried a deep burden because she was unable to have children. Her pain was intensified by Peninnah, who continually provoked her because of her barrenness. Year after year Hannah carried this sorrow.
But Hannah did something important with her pain.
She brought it to the Lord.
At the tabernacle, Hannah prayed with such intensity that Eli initially thought she was drunk. She explained that she was pouring out her soul before the Lord. Hannah was not pretending everything was fine. She brought her grief, disappointment, and desire directly to God.
She also surrendered the answer before she ever received it.
Hannah promised that if God gave her a son, she would give that son back to the Lord. Her prayer was not simply, “Lord, give me what I want.” Her heart became, “Lord, what You give me belongs to You.”
God heard Hannah's prayer.
She conceived and gave birth to Samuel. After Samuel was weaned, Hannah kept her promise. She brought him to the house of the Lord and dedicated him to God's service.
This is where Hannah's faith becomes especially powerful. It is one thing to ask God for something. It is another thing to receive the answer and still surrender it completely to Him.
Samuel would eventually become one of Israel's greatest prophets and spiritual leaders. Hannah prayed for a son, but God was preparing a servant who would influence an entire nation.
Sometimes we see only our immediate need while God sees His greater purpose.
Hannah saw barrenness.
God saw Samuel.
Hannah saw years of disappointment.
God saw a prophet being prepared.
Hannah was praying about her family while God was working on behalf of a nation.
First Samuel 1 reminds us that God hears the prayers of His people. His timing may not be our timing, and His answer may become part of something much greater than we originally imagined. Our responsibility is to pray faithfully, surrender completely, and trust Him with the outcome.

Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You that You hear me when I pray. Help me to bring my burdens honestly before You instead of carrying them alone. Give me faith to trust Your timing when answers seem delayed and a surrendered heart that recognizes everything You give me ultimately belongs to You. Take my life, my family, my gifts, and my blessings and use them for Your purposes. May every answered prayer bring glory to You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
