SUBMISSION FOR ELEVATION
In God's kingdom, going higher often begins with learning how to bow. That may sound strange in a world that constantly tells us to promote ourselves, protect our interests, and make sure everyone notices what we can do. But God's way is different. James 4:10 says, “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up.” Sometimes the season when you feel like you are being overlooked, delayed, or asked to wait is not a wasted season. God may be working on something deeper in you before He changes what is around you.
Submission is not weakness. It is the willingness to trust God enough to release control. It means admitting, “Lord, I have my plans, but I want Your will more than I want my way.” Sometimes that means waiting when you want to move, forgiving when you feel justified in holding a grudge, accepting correction when your pride wants to defend itself, or walking away from an opportunity that looks attractive but does not fit God's direction for your life. None of these things are easy. Surrender rarely feels comfortable, but it can protect us from choices we are not yet mature enough to handle.
We often want the results without the process. We want the promotion without the preparation, the platform without the private discipline, and the crown without the cross. But Scripture gives us a different picture in the life of Jesus. Philippians 2:8–9 tells us that Christ humbled Himself and became obedient even to death on the cross, and afterward God highly exalted Him. His exaltation followed His obedience. That does not mean every difficult season automatically leads to a particular promotion, but it does remind us that faithfulness to God is never wasted.
Submission also teaches us to stop forcing what God has not opened. There are times when we become exhausted because we are trying to make something happen through our own strength. We push doors, chase approval, defend ourselves, and become frustrated when things don't move according to our timetable. Sometimes the wiser response is to step back, pray, listen, and allow God to lead. 1 Peter 5:6 says, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time.” Notice the words “in due time.” God's timing may not match our schedule, but we can trust His wisdom.
So don't be ashamed of a season that requires humility. Don't assume that being hidden means you have been forgotten. Don't despise the lessons God is teaching you while you wait for the next chapter. Submission is not the end of your journey; it is part of your preparation for whatever God entrusts to you next. Bow before God, trust His process, obey His Word, and let Him decide when and how to lift you. What matters most is not simply how high you rise, but whether you remain grounded in Him when you get there.
