WHO ARE YOU? — Discovering Your Identity in God

Key Scripture:
“But who do you say that I am?” — Matthew 16:15
The question “Who are you?” is deeper than your name, occupation, family background, possessions, or position. It is a question of identity, purpose, and relationship with God.

1. You Are God’s Creation
The Bible says:
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him.” — Genesis 1:27
Your value does not come from what people think about you. You were created in the image of God, which means your life has meaning and purpose.

2. You Are More Than Your Past
Your mistakes do not have the final authority over your identity.
“Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away.” — 2 Corinthians 5:17
People may remember who you used to be, but God can give you a new identity.

3. You Are God’s Child
When you put your faith in Christ, your identity changes.
“But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God.” — John 1:12
You are not an orphan in the spirit. You belong to God.

4. You Have a Purpose
God did not create you merely to exist. He created you for a purpose.
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works.” — Ephesians 2:10
Your gifts, experiences, opportunities, and even your struggles can become part of the story God is writing through your life.

5. Don't Let People Define You
David was overlooked by his own family, but God saw what others could not see.
1 Samuel 16:7 reminds us that “man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart.”
People may underestimate you, reject you, or misunderstand you—but God sees your heart and knows your potential.

6. The Most Important Question
Before asking, “What do I have?”, ask:
“Who am I in Christ?”
You are:
Created by God.
Loved by God.
Called by God.
Gifted by God.
Purposed by God.
A new creation in Christ.

Final Thought
You can lose a position and still have purpose.
You can lose possessions and still have value.
You can be rejected by people and still be accepted by God.
So, who are you?
You are not simply what happened to you.
You are not what people call you.
Your true identity is found in the One who created you and called you.

Prayer:
“Lord, help me to understand who I am in You. Remove every false identity, every insecurity, and every limitation that people or my past have placed upon me. Help me discover my purpose and walk boldly in the identity You have given me. Amen.”
