“Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words. For though I am absent in the flesh, yet I am with you in spirit, rejoicing to see your good order and the steadfastness of your faith in Christ.” — Colossians 2:4–5

Paul warns believers that false teaching does not always sound foolish—sometimes it sounds remarkably convincing. That is why our faith must be anchored in Christ and grounded in the truth of God’s Word rather than in someone’s persuasive personality or clever arguments. Paul rejoiced because the Colossians were standing firm even while deceptive ideas surrounded them. Discernment means knowing the truth well enough to recognize error, even when the error sounds good.
A convincing message is not necessarily a biblical message. Test what you hear against the truth of God’s Word.
