THE DREADED HOLE IN THE SKY:
Climate change and global warming are subjects that fuel scientific and political debates worldwide. It has been called the “existential threat” to humanity by many world leaders. Some say it is a real concern, while others see it as political hyperbole meant to facilitate public policy toward socialist agendas.
In the third volume of my book series, “Dismantling Doctrines of Demons: Discovering the Deliverance,” I place this debate in the context of Biblical prophecy and its possible implications by exploring related aspects of Biblical creationism and how the COVID-19 pandemic fueled efforts through the Great Reset initiative of the World Economic Forum for massive reforms in climate policy among the international community.
There is no question that fossil fuel and industrial chemical emissions have contributed significantly to measurable effects on the protective ozone layer surrounding our planet. In May 1985, the world was shocked into that reality when British scientists discovered a hole (significant thinning) in the ozone layer directly above Antarctica. That eventually led to discoveries about the effects of chlorofluorocarbons on the environment and to the Montreal Protocol of January 1989, which reduced the use of those chemicals in household products worldwide. Continued measurements showed evidence that the result was reversing ozone depletion, and curves of its recovery are consistently trending.
Could it happen again?
Climate change enthusiasts insist that unless initiatives such as the Paris Climate Agreement and the Green New Deal are implemented worldwide, the “existential threat” is imminent. Scripture reveals that irrespective of those geopolitical mandates, it will happen again. The fourth bowl judgment that will be poured out on the earth during the Tribulation Period is described by John as giving the sun power to scorch men with fire and fierce heat (Revelation 16:8-9). While God doesn’t need a natural cause for this application of judgment, another breach in the ozone layer could certainly accomplish it.
The real “existential threat” to our planet is imminent – “And I saw a new heaven and a new earth; for the first heaven and the first earth passed away.” (Revelation 21:1). Yes, the Bible declares that a day is coming in the future when our planet and the entire universe will be annihilated and God will re-create a brand new earth and universe that is perfect and complete for eternity.
Only those who have heard and accepted the invitation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ will inhabit this new creation. In the meantime, let’s not neglect our divine assignment to “cultivate and keep” our environment (Genesis 2:15). We must exercise that stewardship, however, with spiritual discernment so that we do not corrupt the process with political ideologies and agendas that have nothing to do with it.
