🌿 “WHEN I CANNOT SEE HIS HAND” WHEN I DECIDE TO KEEP TRUSTING 📖 Psalm 27:13–14 (LLV) — “I would have lost heart if I had not believed that I would see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD. Be strong, and let your heart take courage. Yes, wait for the LORD.” “I would have lost heart…” David does not pretend the journey was easy. He does not say his faith was never shaken. He does not say he never became discouraged. He tells us there was a point when he might have given up. “I would have lost heart…” Then comes the word that kept him from doing so: “unless.” Unless I had believed. Before David saw the answer, he believed. Before everything was resolved, he believed. Before the darkness was gone, he believed. And what did he believe? That he would “see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.” David believed that God's goodness was not merely something he would understand someday far away. He expected to encounter God's goodness in this life. He did not know when. He did not know how. But he knew the character of the God he was waiting for. That is where this entire journey has been leading us. We began unable to see God's hand. We asked: “How long?” We searched and could not find Him. We struggled with discouragement. We prayed when no answer seemed to come. We walked through darkness without understanding. Then we remembered. We became quiet. We waited. We learned that God hears us. And yesterday, we began walking again. Not by sight. By faith. Now David stands at the end of our journey and says: Keep going. “Wait for the LORD.” That might sound strange. Didn't we just begin walking? Yes. Because biblical waiting does not always mean doing nothing. We can wait for God while continuing to live. Continuing to obey. Continuing to serve. Continuing to pray. Continuing to take the next step. Waiting means we refuse to run ahead of God or give up on Him. And while we wait, David says: “Be strong, and let your heart take courage.” Perhaps that is something we understand differently now than we would have at the beginning of this series. Courage does not mean we finally see everything. Courage means we have learned that we do not need to. We know enough about God. We know His faithfulness. We know His mercy. We know He hears. We know He sees. We know He remains with us even when we cannot perceive His hand. So David ends where he began: waiting. But this is not the same waiting. The first waiting asked: “Where are You?” This waiting says: “I know You are there.” The first waiting wondered: “How long?” This waiting says: “However long it takes.” The first waiting could not see God's hand. The final waiting has learned to trust His heart. And somewhere beyond what we can see, God's goodness is still waiting to be discovered. I still believe I will see it. A new beginning sometimes begins with the decision not to lose heart: Even when I cannot see God's hand, I can keep walking, keep waiting, and keep believing in His goodness. Reflection: After everything I have walked through, can I still say with David, “I believe that I will see the goodness of the LORD”? Prayer: Heavenly Father, there have been times when I have almost lost heart. I have asked how long. I have searched for You and struggled when I could not understand what You were doing. But through every season, You have remained faithful. Teach me to keep trusting when I cannot see Your hand. Give my heart courage to wait without giving up and to walk by faith when the road ahead is uncertain. Whatever lies before me, help me hold onto this confidence: I still believe I will see Your goodness. In Jesus' name, Amen.
