Christian baker Jack Phillips has won a major victory after more than a decade of legal battles over his refusal to create cakes carrying messages that violated his Christian convictions.
The Colorado Supreme Court vacated lower-court rulings against Phillips and dismissed the lawsuit brought after he declined to create a pink-and-blue cake celebrating a gender transition.
Phillips has remained clear about his position: Masterpiece Cakeshop serves everyone, but he cannot create every message customers request when that message conflicts with his faith.
After years of being dragged through court, Phillips credited God for sustaining him. “God is in control of all these issues,” he said, explaining that trusting Him is what kept him going.
Phillips said Christians must remain faithful despite opposition: “We have to stand for what we believe,” adding that those beliefs come from God’s Word, the Bible.
