**THEY WERE DRINKING FROM GOD'S TEMPLE VESSELS WHEN THE HAND APPEARED**

The famous story of the writing on the wall contains a detail that makes the scene even more sobering.

Belshazzar, king of Babylon, was holding a massive feast. Thousands of his nobles were celebrating and drinking wine.

Then Belshazzar gave a disturbing command.

He ordered the **gold and silver vessels taken from the temple in Jerusalem** to be brought into the feast.

These were not ordinary cups. They had been used in the worship of God before Babylon conquered Jerusalem and carried them away.

Now Belshazzar was using them during a drunken celebration while praising his idols.

Daniel 5:4 says they **“drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone.”**

Then everything changed.

Suddenly, a human hand appeared.

The fingers began writing on the plaster of the wall.

The celebration turned into terror.

Daniel 5:6 says the king's appearance changed, his thoughts troubled him, and his knees began knocking together.

The message was:

**MENE, MENE, TEKEL, UPHARSIN.**

Daniel explained that God had numbered Belshazzar's kingdom, weighed him, and found him wanting.

Then came the chilling conclusion:

**“In that night was Belshazzar the king of the Chaldeans slain.”**

The very night Belshazzar used God's sacred vessels to honor his idols was the night his kingdom came under divine judgment.

Babylon looked unstoppable.

The palace was filled with wealth.

The nobles were celebrating.

But while they were drinking, **God was already writing the verdict.**

The feast looked like a celebration.

But heaven had already written the ending.
