When Pride Becomes a Chain

Pride may look like strength on the outside, but when it takes control of the heart, it becomes a chain that slowly pulls us away from God.

Sometimes pride says, “I don’t need anyone.”
Sometimes it says, “I am always right.”
Sometimes it refuses to apologize, refuses correction, refuses to forgive, and refuses to surrender.

The most dangerous thing about pride is that we may not realize how heavy the burden has become. We keep carrying it while wondering why our relationship with God feels distant.

The Bible reminds us in Proverbs 16:18:
“Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall.”

God does not call us to prove how great we are. He calls us to humble ourselves, surrender our hearts, and depend on Him.

Humility is not weakness. Humility is recognizing that without God, we cannot do it alone.

Let go of the need to always win.
Let go of the need to always be right.
Let go of the bitterness that pride keeps alive.
Let go of the desire to be praised.

Choose humility. Choose forgiveness. Choose obedience. Choose God.

Because the greatest victory is not proving yourself to people—it is keeping your heart right before the Lord.

“Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will exalt you.” — James 4:10

Lord, remove every form of pride from my heart. Teach me to listen, to forgive, to repent, and to walk humbly with You. Let nothing—especially my own pride—come between me and Your presence.

PRIDE can become a chain.
But surrender to God can break it.
