IS SUNDAY NOW THE SABBATH DAY?

Many Christians sincerely call Sunday the Sabbath.

But when did the Bible say that the Sabbath was changed?

Let’s look at Scripture.

From the beginning, God blessed and sanctified the seventh day. (Genesis 2:2–3)

In the Ten Commandments, God said:

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
(Exodus 20:8)

Then He clearly identified which day:

“The seventh day is the Sabbath of the LORD your God.”
(Exodus 20:10)

That seventh day corresponds to Saturday in our modern weekly calendar.

Jesus kept the Sabbath. It was His custom. (Luke 4:16)

He also said:

“The Sabbath was made for man.”
(Mark 2:27)

Jesus didn’t say the Sabbath was transferred to Sunday.

After His death, His disciples “rested on the Sabbath according to the commandment.” (Luke 23:56)

Paul and the early believers also continued gathering and preaching on the Sabbath. (Acts 13:42–44; 17:2)

So where does Sunday come into the picture?

Sunday—the first day of the week—is mentioned in connection with Jesus’ resurrection. (Matthew 28:1)

But the Bible never says:

“The first day of the week is now the Sabbath.”

It never records God blessing Sunday, sanctifying Sunday, or commanding us to keep Sunday holy.

The resurrection is one of the greatest events in history. But celebrating the resurrection and changing the Sabbath are two different things.

We can worship God every day, including Sunday.

But according to Scripture, the Sabbath God blessed and set apart is the seventh day—Saturday.

So if Sunday is now the Sabbath Day…

where did God say He changed it?
