He said to him, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and most important command. The second is like it: Love your neighbor as yourself. All the Law and the Prophets depend on these two commands.”

Jesus takes the many commands of Scripture and brings them back to two foundational relationships: our relationship with God and our relationship with others. Loving God involves our whole being—heart, soul, and mind—and genuine love for God should overflow into the way we treat people. Jesus was not discarding the rest of Scripture; He was showing us the foundation upon which God’s commands rest. Obedience that lacks love misses the very heart of what God desires.
Love God completely. Love people genuinely. Everything else grows from there.
