A KINGDOM DIVIDED God gave King Nebuchadnezzar a dream revealing the kingdoms and power structures that would exist from his time to the end of the age. Daniel interpreted the feet and toes of iron mixed with clay as a divided kingdom—one possessing strength, yet unable to fully hold together. «“They will not adhere to one another, even as iron does not combine with clay.” — Daniel 2:43» Today, the Church finds itself living under democratic systems of government, where power is exercised through the executive, legislature, and judiciary. Daniel’s interpretation raises a profound question: Could the divided structure of human kingdoms point us toward the limitations of earthly leadership? Under democracy, people of different abilities, wisdom, character, and leadership capacity compete for power and position. Many seek the benefits associated with the throne. Yet Scripture reminds us: “Every kingdom divided against itself will be ruined.” — Matthew 12:25 Human kingdoms rise and fall. Political systems change. Leaders come and go. But Daniel declared that “the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which will never be destroyed.” The question is not simply who sits on the earthly throne?
