My reflection on the Trinity:
Physics offers one of the most dynamic analogies for the Trinitarian mystery. Convection is a process in which a fluid, heated at a specific point, becomes less dense and rises, carrying all the energy it received; it cools as it distributes that energy to the system, becomes denser, and returns to the source—creating a continuous, self-sustaining cycle in which energy, movement, and distribution are inseparable. At the same time, heat propagates via conduction in all directions, permeating the medium in a diffuse and ubiquitous manner.
We can envision the inner life of God through this eternal, immaterial convection:
The Father is the profound and inexhaustible source of heat. He is not depleted because He is fullness itself.
The Son is the complete vertical current: He fully receives the entire reality of the Father—"all that the Father has is mine" (John 16:15)—rises carrying this essence without losing it, and delivers it to the system without holding it back for Himself. It is the perfect movement of self-giving, which John describes as the Word who "came out" from the Father and "returns" to Him (John 16:28), and whom Paul proclaims as the One who, being equal to God, "emptied himself" (Philippians 2:6-7)—the *kenosis*, the supreme act of self-giving that is not a diminution, but the expression of a fullness that needs to hoard nothing.
The Holy Spirit is the spreading of this energy: He distributes the heat in all directions and permeates the entire system. He is the "Spirit who blows where He wills" (John 3:8), the "Counselor" whom the Son sends from the Father (John 15:26) and who "dwells in you" (1 Corinthians 3:16). In the convection system, without diffuse conduction, the energy would remain concentrated in the main current and fail to reach the extremities; Without the Spirit, the love of the Father revealed by the Son would not reach the heart of every creature.
