GOD SEES YOU UNDER THE FIG TREE.
There are parts of your life nobody sees.
The prayers you whisper when you're alone.
The Bible you read when nobody is asking you to.
The temptation you walk away from when nobody would ever know.
The decision to forgive when nobody would applaud you.
The quiet moments when you choose Jesus even though there is no audience.
Nathanael thought he was alone under the fig tree.
Then Jesus said:
«“When you were under the fig tree, I saw you.” — John 1:48»
That sentence gets me.
“I saw you.”
Not just when you stood before people.
Not just when you looked spiritual.
Not just when you were doing something impressive.
Under the fig tree.
Hidden.
Ordinary.
Unnoticed.
Seen by Jesus.
Sometimes we pray, “Lord, give me a bigger platform. Give me a greater opportunity. Use me mightily.”
And there is nothing wrong with asking God to use us.
But perhaps there is another prayer we need to learn:
“Jesus, make me faithful where I am.”
Because the big moments of life are often prepared for in very small moments.
You don't suddenly become prayerful because a crisis arrives.
You don't suddenly become obedient because God gives you a platform.
You don't suddenly develop character because people start watching.
The hidden life prepares us for the visible life.
Jesus said:
«“One who is faithful in a very little is also faithful in much.” — Luke 16:10»
So maybe your present season isn't as insignificant as you think.
Maybe the ordinary morning is training.
Maybe the lonely season is training.
Maybe the small responsibility is training.
Maybe that job nobody celebrates is training.
Maybe the quiet obedience is training.
Maybe your fig-tree moments are where Jesus is teaching you to know Him—not merely to work for Him.
And please hear this gently:
Don't wait for your circumstances to change before you surrender to Jesus.
Don't say:
“When I get that job, I'll have time for God.”
“When things become easier, I'll pray more.”
“When I enter ministry, I'll become serious with Jesus.”
“When I have more money, I'll serve God.”
Start where you are.
Worship Him there.
Pray there.
Open His Word there.
Obey Him there.
Forgive there.
Trust Him there.
Surrender there.
Because Jesus isn't only Lord of the stage.
He is Lord of the bedroom.
Lord of the workplace.
Lord of the thoughts.
Lord of the secret places.
Lord of the ordinary.
And perhaps the greatest question isn't:
“What will God do through me someday?”
Maybe it's:
“Am I willing to let Jesus have me today?”
Before asking God for a bigger assignment, ask Him for a deeper surrender.
Before asking for greater influence, ask for greater faithfulness.
Before asking to be seen by people, remember that Jesus already sees you.
He saw Nathanael under the fig tree.
And He sees you too.
So don't despise your hidden moments.
Don't waste your fig-tree moments.
Jesus is there.
And if you're willing, you can surrender even the ordinary parts of your life to Him.
“Lord Jesus, I am Yours.
Teach me to worship You when nobody is watching.
Make me faithful in the little things.
Have my heart, my thoughts, my time, my work, my private life.
Not just my public life.
Not just my ministry.
All of me.
Amen.”
