Lord, if You have not opened my mouth, shut it.
Do not let me speak because I am wounded, eager, proud, or desperate to be heard. Do not let me confuse impulse with instruction. Do not let me dress up presumption as boldness. If my voice was born in self, let it fall to the ground. If my words came from flesh, let them die quickly.
Men can silence a mouth You never sent. But when You open a mouth, no man can truly shut it. When You give utterance, resistance may rise, but it cannot cancel what You have spoken. What You authorize stands. What You breathe carries weight. What You send forth does not return empty.
So search me, Lord.
Who told me to speak? Was it Your Spirit, or was it my own unrest? Who gave me the right to say this? Was I sent by heaven, or did I run ahead in the heat of my own opinion? Strip me of the need to be seen. Strip me of the need to win. Strip me of the need to sound important. Make me honest enough to be silent when silence is obedience.
You are the Way, and You are the reason for the way. You are not merely the path I walk. You are the One who decides when I move, when I stop, when I speak, and when I hold my peace. Teach me that not every truth must come out of my mouth the moment I feel it. Teach me that timing matters. Clean lips are not enough if the heart is unclean and the motive is mixed.
Let my tongue come under Your government.
Your word cuts clean. Yours does not slash to exalt self. Yours does not wound for sport. Yours pierces to expose, to judge rightly, to heal deeply, to call back, to separate what is holy from what is corrupt. Make my speech like that—clean, weighty, restrained, true. Not reckless. Not theatrical. Not noisy. True.
If my mouth is a sword, then let it be sheathed until the King commands it.
Deliver me from undisciplined speech. Deliver me from spiritual vanity. Deliver me from the urge to announce what You only whispered, and to explain what You told me simply to obey. Let me not speak from irritation and call it discernment. Let me not speak from offense and call it courage. Let me not speak from pride and call it prophecy.
Make me trustworthy in silence before You make me strong in speech before men.
And when it is time to speak, let me not fear faces. Let me not shrink back. Let me not edit truth to protect myself. If You fill my mouth, I will speak. If You send me, I will go. If You command me, I will not apologize for obeying You. Let my words carry Your burden, not my bitterness. Let them carry Your light, not my heat.
Open my mouth only when it serves Your will.
Until then, keep me low, keep me clean, keep me listening.
Amen.
