David is asking God for protection not only from obvious wrongdoing, but from presumptuous sins those moments when we knowingly step beyond God's will, trusting our own judgment instead of His. Sometimes the greatest spiritual danger is not ignorance, but knowing what is right and choosing our own way anyway. Sin can gradually become a habit, and a habit can become a master.

David's prayer is therefore powerful: “Let them not have dominion over me.” Lord, search my heart and keep me from deliberate sin. Give me a humble and obedient spirit. Let nothing contrary to Your will have dominion over my life. Help me choose Your way, even when it is difficult. In Jesus' name, Amen.
