YOUR LIFE CONSISTS NOT IN THE ABUNDANCE OF WHAT YOU POSSESS, BUT IN GOD
As a person grows through the different phases of life, especially materially, there may come a time when many of the things one once desired have become a reality.
One may have a beautiful home, the gadgets one wanted, a car, financial possessions, recognition, comfort, and many of the things that the world considers necessary for a meaningful and successful life.
Yet, after acquiring these things, one may suddenly discover something very profound: none of them is capable of bringing complete fulfillment to the heart.
You may have a beautiful home and still sit in that home for an entire day without being interested in anything around you. You may possess the things you once prayed and longed for, yet discover that something within you is still unsettled.
There is an inexplicable longing within you that you cannot quite define, and no material possession seems capable of answering it.
At such a point, one begins to discover a truth that the human heart often learns only after exhausting its search in created things: Life does not consist in the abundance of the things one possesses.
Jesus said:
“And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.”
Luke 12:15
This is not merely a warning against covetousness. It is a revelation of the true nature of human life There is something in man that material abundance cannot satisfy because that something was never created to be satisfied by material things. God created man for Himself.
The human heart was made for God, and therefore nothing outside God can ultimately occupy His place. Wealth can provide comfort, but it cannot give the deepest peace of the heart.
A beautiful home can provide shelter, but it cannot give the soul its true rest. Cars, gadgets, achievements, recognition, and worldly pleasures may add conveniences and enjoyment to life, but they cannot become the source of man's ultimate fulfillment.
This is why a person can have much and still feel that something is missing.The problem is not necessarily that the person lacks something materially. The deeper issue may be that the heart is longing for the One for whom it was created.
Only God can fill that longing within man that man himself cannot fully explain. He created the heart, and He alone knows what can satisfy it. He created man, and He alone can become the fullness of man's life.
There comes a point when the soul begins to understand that what it has been searching for in things can only be found in God. What truly satisfies man, within and without, is no one else but God.
What gives the heart the peace it longs for is God. What gives the soul its true comfort is God. What gives contentment that circumstances cannot manufacture is God. And what ultimately determines the true meaning, direction, and purpose of one's life is God.
Therefore, the greatest wealth of a man's life is not merely what he has in his possession; it is what he has in God. For what is the value of having everything around you while remaining empty within?
And what would it profit a man to gain the whole world and yet lose his own soul? The things of this world may surround a person, but only God can fill him.This is a reality that cannot be gainsaid or contradicted.
Your life, your true wealth, your peace, your contentment, and the abundance that truly matters all consist in God. When God becomes the centre of one's life, one no longer looks to created things to provide what only the Creator can give.
The deepest abundance of life is not found in having more things.
It is found in having God.
