Revelation 21:1-4 In Detail Jerusalem Reader's
D. The Jerusalem of the Future
The heavenly Jerusalem
Revelation 21:1-4 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, the first heaven and the first earth had disappeared now, and there was no longer any sea.
I saw the holy city, and the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, as beautiful as a bride all dressed for her husband.
Then I heard a loud voice call from the throne, 'You see this city? Here God lives among them. He will make his home among them; they shall be his people, and he will be their God; his name is God-with=them.
He will wipe away all tears from their eyes; there will be no more death, and no more mourning or sadness. The world of the past has gone.'
Isaiah 65:17-20 For now I create news heavens and a new earth, and the past will not be remembered, and will come no more to men's minds.
Be glad and rejoice for ever and ever for what I am creating, because I now create Jerusalem 'Joy' and her people 'Gladness'.
I shall rejoice over Jerusalem and exult in my people. No more will the sound of weeping or the sound of cries be heard in her;
in her, no more will be found the infant living a few days only, or the old man not living to the end of his days. To die at the age of a hundred will be dying young; not to live to be a hundred will be the sign of a cure.
2 Peter 3:10-13 The Day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then with a roar the sky will vanish, the elements will catch fire and fall apart, the earth and all that it contains will be burnt up.
Conclusion and Doxology
Since everything is coming to an end like this, you should be living holy and saintly lives
while you wait and long for the Day of God to come, when the sky will dissolve in flames and the elements melt in the heat.
What we are waiting for is what he promised; the new heavens and new earth, the place where righteousness will be at home.
Revelation 3:12 Those who prove victorious I will make into pillars in the sanctuary of my God, and they will stay there for ever; I will inscribe on them the name of my God and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem which comes down from my God in heaven, and my own new name as well.
